    ELC Day #13 & 14- Wild Rice Pilaf

    Back in May I made my annual birthday list of things I’m working towards in the next year. I can officially cross one of those items after 2 months of being 24. “A flower finally grows in the heat of my front porch.” off the list. I planted Rudbeckia in bright red pots this year and so far they seem to love hanging out in the million degree heat that is an afternoon on our front porch. Well. They were before vacation. We’ll see what they look like after vacation. In humidity that makes me melt, Rudbeckia’s sunny disposition trucks right along. Small gardening victory. Next year I’ll be checking…

    Creamy Wild Rice & Mushroom Soup

    I have savored these photos for about a week now, anxiously waiting for some time to write up the recipe and remembering how mouth-watering the entire house smelled the day I made it. Wild rice is a Minnesota native plant and available from a variety of local producers. Check the Minnesota Grown guide for one in your region. This was also made with a local button mushroom from Eden, WI. My original intent was to make cream of mushroom soup for a traditional green bean casserole.
